How the Dual SPI Chips (BMC Firmware) works

BMC supports dual SPI ROM chips (one Primary boot and one Failover back-up) are implemented with the identical firmware image. These chips are not soldered but socketed so can simply be replaced.

On system power-up, BMC boots up first. BMC loads firmware from its Primary SPI to boot process.

If the Primary SPI firmware is not available or in case of a failover, BMC Watchdog will be triggered after the timer is expired and BMC loads the backup firmware stored in the second SPI to boot.
